Hello everyone! My name is Hernan. I'm deeply passionate about community advocacy. Currently, I serve as the director at the U.N.I.T.Y Family Enrichment Center, where my dedicated team and I work tirelessly to support the neighborhoods of Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, and Richmond Hill. As a first-generation Mexican immigrant raised in Queens, I know firsthand how crucial city agencies and nonprofit organizations are in supporting families. These organizations offer everything from food pantries to clothing distribution. After graduating from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, I committed myself to helping those in need. With my extensive experience in various community settings and a strong academic background, my team and I at U.N.I.T.Y FEC are dedicated to achieving success in our mission to uplift the community.
In my free time, I love driving around with my favorite music playing, which is one of my hobbies. I also enjoy spending time with friends and loved ones, trying out different types of food at various restaurants. After a day out, I like to unwind at home by watching a good comedy, horror, or thriller movie. That's a bit about me. If you have any questions, feel free to visit our FEC and ask us in person!
Hello! I'm Sharena, the family advocate and community liaison at U.N.I.T.Y Family Enrichment Center. I'm a native New Yorker. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY but I've been a Queens resident since 2013. I graduated with a degree in Community and Human Services, equipping me with the knowledge and skills to effectively support families. I have a strong connection to the Richmond Hill neighborhood and a genuine understanding of its unique strengths and challenges.
My passion for community drives me to be actively present, working closely with local organizations to help families thrive. Whether I'm coordinating events, providing support, or advocating for resources, my goal is to foster a connected, resilient community where every family has the opportunity to succeed. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader, participating in community service, traveling, reading, and binging watching TV shows.
My name is Paola Ramirez, and I’m the Community Liaison at
U.N.I.T.Y. Family Enrichment Center. I was born and raised in Queens, NY, and I’m a proud first-generation Salvadoran American. I’m also a licensed social worker and a graduate of CUNY Hunter’s Silberman School of Social Work. I’m
passionate about helping families and individuals succeed, and I’ve been a fierce advocate for social justice throughout my career. Since moving to Richmond Hill at the age of six, I’ve developed strong ties to this community, and it’s a privilege to give back to the place I call home.
My work is grounded in empathy, cultural awareness, and a
deep desire to uplift underrepresented voices. Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and close loved ones. I enjoy reading YA romance fantasy novels, listening to music, traveling, learning about new cultures, and winding down with a good reality TV show.
